As Democrats in blue states expand their majorities into super-majorities, they are becoming even more hostile to gun rights, as evidenced by a spate of new anti-Second Amendment laws that are now being challenged by the formation of “gun sanctuaries.”
But the reality is, Democrats won’t be phased by those. They will continue to push for total gun bans whenever and wherever they can.
That said, new figures reveal what a daunting challenge the Donkey Party faces if it ever attempts to implement gun confiscation. (Related: Texas senator files measure to turn entire state into a “gun sanctuary,” nullifying ALL federal gun control laws and Dem attempts to subvert the Second Amendment.)
Not only will Democratic Leftists face a heap of opposition to any such edict, but they’ll also have to stare down lots of firepower as well. As reported by The Truth About Guns, the number of privately-owned firearms in America is staggering — many more than most people even know.
The website noted that one of the more popular gun estimate figures in the U.S. is 300 million, coupled with 12 trillion rounds of ammunition. But another estimate, first publicized in 2017, puts the figure much higher.
Jenn Jacques, writing at Bearing Arms in June of that year, noted:
I’ve also seen one that claims we have over 400 million guns and 24 trillion rounds of ammunition. The fact is, while there is no definitive way to tally all the firearms in the United States, it is commonly accepted and reported that there are roughly 300 million firearms in the hands of law-abiding Americans.
But has anyone else noticed that number hasn’t moved in years, even in the 8 years Obama sparked an increase in gun sales, the gun run during Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign, and after the NICS background checks system set new records for 15 straight months?
Jacques goes on to cite data from the Weapons Man site, which posted estimates of between 412 million and 660 million, based on publicly available data.
Specifically, Weapons Man noted that the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives maintains a database which gun wholesalers (not retailers), importers, and manufacturers who voluntarily participate can enter their firearms per the identifying data that goes on an ATF transaction record (Form 4473).
The blog notes that users enter their firearms data into the ATF system called Access 2000 or A2K, which was introduced in 1999. “This system is then used by the National Tracing Center in West Virginia to respond rapidly to trace requests: given serial number, make and model they can produce an instant hit, saving field agents a trip to the manufacturer, wholesaler, or jobber,” the site continued.
The A2K system, Weapons Man notes, has logged more than 252 million unique firearms — and these represent “only those firearms manufactured, imported, or sold by a relatively small number of the nation’s tens of thousands of Federal Firearms Licensees.
To be precise, just 35 firms representing only 66 FFLs total, as of 2015. So as you can see, the number of guns coming into the U.S. or manufactured here, then sold, is likely far higher than current popular estimates — all of which means that gun-confiscating Democrats could never fully disarm the American people, even if they were to try.
Democrats tend to play the long game, politically, just like they have with illegal immigration, which has changed American demographics over the course of a single generation. The difference with guns, however, is that owning them is a constitutional right that is gaining in popularity, as evidenced by the sheer numbers of them in circulation, as Democrats move to limit ownership with new laws.
Confiscating all of them would be an impossibility, not just because a large number of Americans would resist such efforts, but because there are so many in private hands.
